How we use AI
We write about AI, and we use it. Here is exactly where.
Drafting the daily analyses
Each morning an AI system (Anthropic's Claude) looks for the day's most important AI stories and drafts an analysis in our format: the news, one line of context with a credited source, and what it could mean for the Caribbean. Drafts follow written rules on original wording, attribution and accuracy.
An editor then reviews every draft, checks it against the original reporting, edits it and decides whether to publish or reject it. Drafts are never published automatically.
Screening submissions
When writers and organisations submit work, AI helps with a first screen: is it about AI, are there signs of copied text, and are there risks for the editor to check. A person makes the decision.
Get the AI Angle
Our Get the AI Angle tool gives readers an instant, AI-generated analysis of a story they choose. These results are labelled "AI-generated analysis, not reviewed by an editor" and are shown only to the reader who asked.
Images
Story cards are generated from the story text. We do not use AI to create realistic images of real people or events.
